1. What did you learn this week?

This week we talked more about the states of matter, solid, liquid, and gas. As a table group we drew a picture for each state of matter, talking more about what the particles in each state look like. We participated in an online simulation to see the particles in a solid, liquid, and gas, seeing how fast they move, how close together they are, and how many lines of attraction are present. After these simulations we created a flip video explaining and showing why condensation occurs on a drink. 

2. How can you apply what you've learned to teaching in the future?

I can apply what I've learned to teaching in the future by incorporating simulations into my science teaching. Especially when talking about solid, liquids, and gases, the simulations we used during lab this week were a great visual representation of the particles within each state. I can also implement flip videos within my classroom. This is a fun, engaging, and impactful way to see how your students are understanding the concepts and ideas within the classroom. Flip videos are also a good way for students to bounce ideas off of one another in a creative way. 

3. What are new or remaining questions?

A remaining question I have after this week is, how can we adjust the complexity of concepts, especially the plunger example, so that it is manageable for elementary students?

  2. Hi Natalie! I also talked about adding the simulations to my future science lessons! I feel like they can be super beneficial for student learning. I like that you also bring up using flip videos in your classroom as those can also be engaging and an unique way for students to share their ideas. Great post!
