Week 6
1. What did you learn this week?
This week I learned about flowers and the female and male parts within them. We got to see our fast plants and put supports in place in order to help them grow straight up. We also took dead bees and pollinated our flowers. We took a lot of time to learn about turtles, reading a book, playing a game, having discussion, and filling out a worksheet. This information helped me to become more aware of what we can do to not only help turtles live but also things we as humans do that are harmful to turtles and our environment in general.
2. How can you apply what you've learned to teaching in the future?
As I mentioned, we learned a lot about turtles. Starting with reading a book, then playing a game that went along with the book, having discussion after, and lastly checking our understanding with filling out a worksheet. This is something that I will definitely apply to my future teaching. This layout of a lesson can not only engage students, but can also check their understanding. At the end when we talked about what humans can do that either harm or help turtles, this is a great way for students to see that they do have an impact not only on turtles but our sea life and the environment around us.
3. What are new or remaining questions?
What are some other ways to help students to understand the broader impact of human actions on various ecosystems?
Hello! Your remaining question is great. I like how you want to go deeper into understanding the impact of human actions on various ecosystems, not just with the turtles. I also love the picture of your plant, looks like you have a lot of flowers on it!
