Week 3

Fast Plants

Life Cycle of a Tree

Lentil Seeds

1. What did you learn this week?

This week I learned more about the life cycles of plants and animals, as well as the germination of seeds. We learned the four stages of a butterflies life cycle. These four stages are egg, caterpillar, chrysalis, and adult butterfly. This information and watching videos helped me to review the life cycles of many different plants and animals. To understand the germination of seeds we did a seed germination experiment using lentil seeds, cotton balls, and water.

2. How can you apply what you've learned to teaching in the future?

Learning about the germination of seeds and life cycles will be very helpful in my future teaching. I enjoyed making the Play Doh life cycles, this is something I will implement in my future classroom. It is a great way for students to see a physical model of what we are learning. These models not only help students with their learning but also helps them to fully understand the process and makes science fun.

3. What are new or remaining questions?

We recently learned about how to make science more interesting and informative, it is important to incorporate students families with their learning. A question I have is, how can educators involve families into the learning about life cycles?
